The Grand Canyon is truly magnificent, and it’s no wonder that it’s such a famous destination for travelers from throughout the world. You can see the canyon’s majesty in several ways, but one of the best is by helicopter ride.
For sure!
so excited that i happened upon your site while pinning! I’m taking my 6th grade son on a road trip (he’d much rather fly-i said no) to Arizona, to Phoenix, mostly for pre superbowl activities; your post had the best, most and doable info, so thank you!! We’re leaving from Spokane, WA Sunday morning and will get there Monday night…my question; is there anywhere on that standard/straightish/ route i’m traveling south to must do or stop at? thanks for any help, we’ll be traveling from snow to desert, should be pretty awesome!
i’ll be blogging all the way too=)
Hollie
Hi Hollie, thanks so much for the kind words. If you go through Utah, I would recommend spending some time in one or all of these areas…Bryce Canyon, Zion NP and/or Escalate. Southern Utah is spectacular. If you go through Nevada, maybe drive through Death Valley…a little out of your way, but worth it. I think coming through Utah will be your most scenic option. Some great stops in Northern Arizona as you make your way to Phoenix…many of which I’ve highlighted in the post you’ve already read. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I’ll try and answer. I hope you have a great time in Arizona. Safe Travels.
Very nice presentation Mike. Are you in a motor home yet?
Ed
Hey, thanks so much Ed! Noooo, no RV. 🙁 Hope all is well with you. Thanks for stopping by and posting a comment. Cheers, Mike
Excellent blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost
on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go
for a paid option? There are so many options
out there that I’m completely confused .. Any recommendations?
Many thanks!
Hi Mike
I’m planning a trip to Arizona, want to rent a motorcycle and do some riding to and around the Grand Canyon , late February was when I was planning.
Would that be to early weather wise for a motorcycle?
Look forward to hearing from you
Jackie
Hi Jackie! Oh, the motorcycle riding around AZ is fantastic! As you may know, the state of Arizona is very diverse, half the state is desert, while a good portion of the rest is higher elevation with dramatically different weather. That said, NO WAY would I take a bike to the Grand Canyon in February. Not only is it way too cold, there will be lots of snow and ice on the ground. A really nice ride that time of year would be around the Superstition Mountains, along the historic Apache Trail. There are scenic winding roads, lakes and a great refreshment stop along the way at Tortilla Flat (an old trading post). Let me know if you have any other questions…happy to help. Cheers, Mike
Hi Mike.
Do you have any must do/see stops for the adventure lover on a road trip to Phoenix from Southern Missouri?
Hi Shirley…thanks for stopping by. Yes, I think I might have a few suggestions. I am about to leave on a road trip to Tahoe, but if you email me in a week I will try and respond. Thanks so much, Mike
Nice information. I recently moved to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon so I was looking to explore Arizona. Looking forward to visiting some of these places in April.
Hi Cindi…so glad you found it informative. I hope you have a fantastic time…April is a wonderful time of year. Cheers, Mike
Hi Mike ,
My girlfriend and I like to take spontaneous road trips. 3 days on average, thinking of taking a trip to Sedona from San Diego. Is it worth the trip and what is a must do ?
Hi Michael…absolutely! Sedona has some very unique landscape, fantastic hiking, amazing and romantic inns, spas and resorts. It’s a very romantic place. If you go, do not miss driving up Oak Creek Canyon. If you have the time, stop at Slide Rock if it’s not too busy. Let me know if I can answer any other questions. All the best, Mike
We just got back from a road trip to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Page and Lake Powell and Kanab. It was beautiful and we found the sun after coming from Wyoming.
In Sedona Elote Restaurant was incredible for Mexican flare food. Best I’ve ever had. I loved the Chilean sea bass and the chocolate pie. Must try and definitely worth the crazy wait.
Hi Terri…I’m so glad to hear you had such a great time. Thank you so much for sharing your suggestions, much appreciated. I’ll actually be in Sedona in about a month, so I will have to check this restaurant out!
Really like your site and have learned from your marketing articles. I’m wanting to link to your Arizona top 25 road trip destinations page. Using your graphic if that’s OK.
Thanks a bunch

Thanks Randy. Sure, that’s fine.
Hi
Just found your site in starting to plan a visit to Phoenix from the UK to see the wonderful Bob Seger in concert in February 2019 …..just wondering how the Feb weather might impact on some your suggestions especially further north at the grand canyon and Flagstaff etc ?
Regards
Simon
Hi Simon…very cool, you’re going to have a great time. The weather in Northern Arizona in February is quite different from Phoenix. In Phoenix you will likely have sun and mild weather, say 70f/22c for a high and maybe 40f/5c for a low. In Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon you will very likely have snow, but the roads are usually in good conditions. If you’re renting a car, I would recommend front wheel drive, while all-wheel would be nice to have. The temps will likely be around 35f/2c for a high and well below freezing at night. Hope that helps. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
Hi Mike! I really loved this post and found it very helpful. I am planning to go to Arizona next month and was wondering if you could give me some advice on the best way to approach my trip. I am flying into Phoenix airport and plan to go to Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend area. What is the best way for me to go about this in 4 days? Unfortunately, I don’t have a ton of time, but I am trying to make the most of what I have. What would be the best route to see the most attractions (was hoping to drive by Grand Canyon) and then also do you have an recommendations on where to stay at these places? Thank you and if you are able to answer more questions via email that would be awesome!
Hi Sara…oh, I’m so glad! There is really only one route you can travel to go to the Page Lake Powell area. However, since you want to see the Grand Canyon, I you can exit the East entrance and you will be that much closer to Page Lake Powell rather than going in and out of the South Rim. I would maybe make some stops from Phoenix to Flagstaff (make a day of it stopping at Montezuma Castle https://mikesroadtrip.com/montezuma-castle and maybe Sedona). Spend the night in Flagstaff, then head to the Grand Canyon via the South Rim. Spend the next two nights in Page Lake Powell, then come back and spend your 4th night in Flagstaff and explore the area, back in Phoenix on day 5. Here is another route to consider: https://mikesroadtrip.com/northern-arizona-road-trip Let me know what route will consider and I can make lodging and restaurant recommendations.
Looking for something in the White Mountains area or eastern AZ for next week. Want to do a car trip somewhere and escape the Phoenix heat. Been to Sedona many times so thinking Show Lo or White Mountains. Any suggestions on must see places and things to do. Is there zip lines or anything like that in that area? Thanks!
Hi Tom…sorry for the delay in responding, I just got back from a month road tripping around central Europe. While I have been to the White Mountains before, I have not documented any suggestions. I wish I could be of more help. If you do go, I hope you have a great time, it sure is beautiful up there in the summer months.
I appreciate this article on things to do in Arizona, such as going to the Desert Botanical Garden. I’m planning a road trip there with my family so we’ve been wanting to see what there is to do there and this article was very helpful. We’ll make sure to visit some of these locations when we’re there, thank you.
Hey Liv, so glad you found it helpful. Hope you enjoy your time in Arizona. Cheers, Mike
This is such a fantastic list of destinations in Arizona. Thank you for putting all the effort into putting this together. My wife and I are hoping to go there later this year. Thanks, Bob
Hey Bob, I’m so glad you found it hopeful. Hope you make it to AZ one day soon. Cheers, Mike
This is an incredible list. Thank you so much for all the great suggestions.
You’re quite welcome Nick! Thanks for stopping by.
What an incredible list. Thank you so much for putting this together. My husband and I are looking at visiting Arizona next month, so just doing a bit of research. Thanks again, Carrie.
So glad you found it helpful. Hope you have a great time.
Hi Mike. My husband and I are visiting my late 80’s parents in Sun city. We would like to take a 2 or 3 day car trip. Mom has a walker and dad can only walk short distances. We can rent wheel chairs. Do you have any recomendations for us. Thank you.
Hey Cheryl, thanks so much for stopping by. It sounds like you need some scenic driving areas where your folks don’t need to get out of the car. You can really take in the beauty of Sedona just by driving (be sure to go up Oak Creek Canyon). Monument Valley in the northern part of the state is also a great option. Saguaro National Park near Tuscon is a great drive too, especially over the next month as there will be lots of wildflowers. The old Apache Trail outside of Apache Junction to Canyon Lake would be yet another option. Hope that helps. Let me know if I can answer any other questions. Cheers, Mike
My wife and I are looking at visiting Arizona next month, this has been so helpful. Thank you.
Hi Hootie, so glad you found this helpful. Hope you enjoy Arizona. Cheers, Mike

My pleasure Terry. Stop by and let me know where you ended up visiting. Cheers, Mike
I really like to share your all these most adorable images which views very fabulous and cool. I also enjoyed myself while I was visiting this kind of places.
We just looked at your Olympic Peninsula road trip guide as we are road tripping that area next summer. This trip looks like such a bucket list adventure. Great piece!
Hello! We are trying to plan a quick, 3 day rv trip with our 2 little ones. We are driving from San Diego. We are hoping to make the most of our 3 days… what would be be the best route to take that will let our kids see the most interesting places?
Hi Kellie, thanks for stopping by. 3-days is not a lot of time as AZ is a large state. Did you have a region in mind? That would help me provide you with more info. When are you planning this trip? Cheers, Mike
This is such a helpful post. My wife and I plan to visit Arizona next month and this has really helped with our planning. We both love your videos too. Best regards, Bob from Florida
I’m so glad Bob. Hope you and your wife have a wonderful visit. Cheers, Mike
