No Dancing on my Birthday this year…
Yesterday I was hiking in the Superstition Mountains on the Hieroglyphic trail, shooting some video for an upcoming post. I was really enjoying myself and ended up staying a bit later than I had expected. Darkness was enveloping the sky and I knew I needed to begin my decent. While darkness was upon me, I didn’t feel the need for additional light just yet. A mere ten minutes into my decent however, I misstepped and twisted my ankle…very badly. In the process I nearly trashed my brand new, pretty expensive video camera. The pain was familiar, I’d felt it several times before while playing basketball in my younger days. The sharp pain of rolling your ankle can bring one to tears…if not to vomit.
After letting the pain subside a bit, I continued my decent once again—however, this time, it was much slower. What should have taken a little over an hour, took two. Thankfully I had one of my Fenix flashlights with me to help guide the way, because at this point the sky was full of blackness. To add to the drama of the evening, my batteries ran out of the flashlight before I could reach the safety of my truck. I did however make it without further complications, but it was certainly a lesson learned. No matter how brief of a hike you think you’re going on…always go prepared. As a matter of fact, I think I’m going to do a post on the bare essentials one should take when they go hiking into the wilderness.
So, since tomorrow is my birthday…I don’t think they’ll be any dancing.

Ah… Now I know why my spirit was drawn to yours… we are fellow fishie friends! I assume your birthday (from the date of this post) is today, 3/16 — and mine was yesterday, 3/15! Beware the Ides of March…. unless you are celebrating life! I am in NYC for the week… soaking up the city– running the NYC Half Marathon on Sunday (hardly trained so this is more of a FUN run/skip ) — I hope your ankle heals quickly… just means you must think outside the box — I mean, there is always chair dancing
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I have a very good friend who lives in Bozeman and I think I’ll make it back up there this summer. I have a huge book on places to go in Montana, so I’ll have to look up some of your recommendations. I would love it if you would send a few shots of places you recommend! you can forward to Mike at MikesRoadTrip.com. Thank you so much for stopping by, please do so again soon. Cheers, Mike
