A funny misunderstanding

I just heard something I found quite amusing…bear with me as I set it up.  Earlier this year I was staying at my buddy’s place in Arizona…the neighbor told me that since my buddy did not have trash service, that I was welcome to put any garbage I had in his can during my stay.  I spent a couple months at my buddy’s place, so perhaps that’s not what the neighbor had in mind when he made the offer.

Anyhow, the night before I hit the road again, I placed a bag of garbage in the neighbor’s trash can. A couple hours later I was in the living room watching T.V. with the main door open (security screen door closed letting fresh air in), when all of a sudden I heard my name called. “Mike!”  I couldn’t tell where the sound came from, it really startled me.  Then I heard it again…”Mike!”  The neighbor was at the security door yelling my name.  When I realized where it came from the nighbor said “Mike, I don’t mind you using my trash can, just ask before doing so.”  Since I was leaving the next day, I didn’t want to get into it, I so I just said, “sure thing Nick, sorry about that.”

As I was leaving the next morning, I had a few pieces of produce that I wasn’t going to be able to consume, so I thought I would just put them on top of the mailbox…thinking perhaps the neighbor or some passerby would pick them up and make use.  I should make note that the mailbox is a block structure with two boxes that neighbors share.  Mind you, this produce was left on the mailbox many months ago and I don’t recall what it consisted of.

[The funny part is not far off…stay with me] So, my buddy was over at his house the other day when he ran into the neighbor…the neighbor said to my buddy, “What happened to that ‘Mike’ guy…he really turned into an asshole.”  The neighbor then proceeds to tell my buddy that he and his wife didn’t appreciate the fact that I left two kiwi and a zucchini on the mailbox pedestal…in a strategic position…with the zucchini pointed at their house.  LOL…I was laughing so damn hard when my buddy told me this, because there was absolutely no malicious intent or thought on my part.  I think what may have happened…someone else picked up the other pieces of produce and left the kiwi and zucchini behind, and, the placement was just purely random.

So, the next time you have a beef with your neighbor…consider that it may be a totally innocent misunderstanding. 🙂
