Located on I-70 between Vail and Aspen on the western slope of the Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Glenwood Springs is  blessed with a remarkable mix of geological wonders. Famous for its mineral hot springs and outdoor adventures, the town is home to the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, Sunlight Mountain Resort and Hanging Lake.

  • Sunlight Mountain Resort in Glenwood Springs, CO has one of the steepest ski trails in the state, the Heathen, with a pitch of 52 percent.

  • Doc Holliday, gunman-gambler-dentist, headed west to Glenwood Springs, CO after the famous shootout at the OK Corral (in Tombstone, Arizona), where he hoped that soaking in the hot springs would cure his advanced tuberculosis. Doc Holliday died at the Glenwood Hotel in November 1887.
  • In 1905, the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, CO became the temporary home for President Theodore Roosevelt during a three-week bear hunting expedition. A fan of the state, Roosevelt ended up staying at the Hotel Colorado on several occasions.
  • According to legend, the teddy bear was first created at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs, to cheer up Theodore Roosevelt after an unsuccessful day of hunting, Hotel Colorado maids presented him with a stuffed bear pieced together with scraps of fine material. Later, when he did bag a bear, his daughter Alyce admired it saying, “I will call it Teddy.” The term caught on and became the name for the popular toy known today.
  • Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is home to America’s highest elevation roller coaster. And, the Glenwood Hot Springs is the largest mineral hot springs pool in the world.
