Jay Allan and the Uncommon Good band bring down the house!

The Scottsdale Center for the Arts has a summertime concert series called “Live and Local Fridays.” I attended the show last night which featured Jay Allan and the Uncommon Good band…whoa, were they amazing! The concert was only $12, which I think was an insane value for such a top-notch performance. Jay Allan and company play some funky-folk, blues-rock which is combine with heartfelt and memorable lyrics that dovetails genre-bending styles and melodies. They also performed a few cover songs, one of which was a Pink Floyd song. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone perform a Pink Floyd tune and they knocked it out of the theater. The other cover song was “Give Me Shelter” by the Rolling Stones, which brought the house down. The band’s rendition of the song, dare I say, might have been better than the Stone’s themselves. The band seemed so down-to-earth, almost as if they don’t know how good they all are.  The Virgina G. Piper Theater at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts is a fantastic venue to see a show, every seat in the house is a good one, and the acoustics are stellar.

Jay Allan and the Uncommon Good band is local to the Phoenix area and seem to perform quite often—so if you’re a local, or in town visiting, I highly recommend catching their performance.
