Hangzhou Global Tour: Day 30
I scream. You scream. We all scream, for ice cream!
Organizers of the Global Tour had a large ice cream truck wrapped in the tour logo colors and insignia. Parked at 5th Avenue and 20th Street in the shadow of the iconic Flatiron Building, the entire team, along with some local volunteers handed out nearly 2000 scoops of free ice cream. Our mission was to spread the happiness of Hangzhou by sharing two locally inspired ice cream flavors…sweet olive and Longjing green tea.
While we were attempting to do a nice thing for the residents of NYC, we learned the locals are a bit skeptical when it comes to free things. Their cynical nature was wondering what it was we were trying to sell them. With the help of a very friendly and enthusiastic off-duty NYPD officer, playing the role of security guard, we started giving away scoops by the truckload. This officer was so helpful and friendly, often taking photos and hamming it up for the camera, while keeping our line of ice cream lovers from hindering the flow of pedestrian traffic.
It was a fun day bringing joy to so many people…as well as a few dogs.
Tomorrow we take a harbor cruise, so please stay tuned for my next update. In the meantime, click here if you missed the last once. Or, click here to read the next.
