And the “Best of the Road” winners are…
As many of you know, I was one of the participants on this year’s “Best of the Road” with Rand McNally and USA Today, which will be featured on the Travel Channel July 25th at 8pm EST. I have no doubt that all the judges had an incredibly difficult time choosing the top town in each of the categories. I know for Brian and I (Team Road Bros.), we were treated like local celebrities and shown the best that each town we visited had to offer with respect to “Best Food.”Like people, each town was a bit different, some slightly excelled in one category over another, but ultimately a winner had to be selected.
There is no question the “winner” in each category will receive more recognition, but the publicity each town has received, and will continue to receive, certainly has made it all worthwhile.
After each team presented their findings to a panel of judges, the teams that were involved with the Travel Channel production were given the names of the winner and runner-up to present on the show, which again, will air on July, 25th.
Without further ado…the winners are:
- Santa Fe, New Mexico – “Best Food”
- Bardstown, Kentucky – “Most Beautiful”
- DelRay Beach, Florida – “Most Fun”
- Gainesville, Texas – “Most Patriotic”
- Murray, Kentucky “Friendliest”
The runner-ups in each category were (in alpha order):
Best Food
Most Beautiful
Most Fun
Most Patriotic
Friendliest
Congratulations to the winners, and to all the towns involved! I know I can speak for the other teams when I say it was an honor and a privilege for us to meet the towns and to be involved with the “Best of the Road” campaign. I wish you all the best of luck in fostering your communities, and hope to see you on the road real soon.

Hey Paul, thanks so much for stopping by and posting a comment. All the best, Mike
Thanks for choosing Santa Fe, we are honored! I am sure all of the other towns were fantastic and it was a tough decision. We loved having you all with us in Santa Fe, comeback and visit!
Hi Nicole! It was our pleasure….we had an amazing time in Santa Fe. You are right…the other towns were all worthy of the title “Best Food” in small town America.
Congratulations to Santa Fe! A well deserved title. We had fun participating in the contest and our town fell in love with Mike and Brian — great USA Today/Rand McNally ambassadors. Hope to see you again when you’re back in our neck of the woods. Thank you again for the opportunity! Lee Simonson, from Lewiston, NY
Hey Lee! We were so incredibly impressed by what Lewiston was able to pulled off…it’s such a testament to your community. Thank you so very much for everything, we had a fantastic time! Check back to “Mike’s Road Trip” as I’m working on my first, of at least a couple posts that will be up soon.
We’ll take runner-up. Go Bloomington!!
Hey J.B., thanks for stopping by! I think you commented that your favorite place in town is “Finch’s,” I think mine was “Scholars Inn…” been there?
