Aghadoe Heights hits hotel home run in Killarney, Ireland
Located on a bluff offering stupendous views of Lough Leane Lake in Killarney, Ireland, Aghadoe Heights Hotel provides guests with a suburb lodging experience.
I was in Kilarney for a travel blogger conference and had an opportunity to stay at the Aghadoe Heights Hotel for five nights. From the accommodations, amazing views, supportive staff to the hotel amenities, everything at the Aghadoe Heights Hotel impressed even this discerning traveler.
I stayed in a lake view studio suite, which had a divided sitting area and bedroom. There was even a spacious foyer with a large closet and a pull-out ironing board. I am one who really notices the most subtle details of a hotel and was quite impressed with the quality materials and craftsmanship of my room. All the doors in the suite, including the closet, were made of fine solid wood with matching casement. The furniture had an elegant European mid-century modern feel. The entire exterior wall was made of windows that spanned nearly from the floor to the ceiling to take full advantage of the views. Even the sound-proofing of the room was top-notch…I never heard a peep from guests to the sides or above me.
Every attention to detail seemed to be considered, from the full oscillating T.V. (to be viewed in the sitting area or from the bed) to the high fidelity Bose stereo system, the high-end Nespresso machine to the sophisticated halogen lighting. There where even plenty of charging ports, including a North American style plug along with USB ports. The accommodations also included something I’ve never seen before… a local tour guide mobile device. This smartphone-like device allows guests to stay connected without having to get a local SIM card or use their own data while touring the area. With built-in apps that allow guests to take a self-guided tour, make phone calls and surf the web, it’s a really nice added touch to the overall experience.
The bathroom is also quite luxurious, with a marble vanity and contrasting marble floors. There was a large soaking tub for two, heated towel rack, European style shower, great lighting and plenty of mirror and vanity space.
The lounge is a cozy spot for cocktails and appetizers, while also offering some wonderful views. The restaurant serves a great array of locally inspired dishes for dinner and offers a fantastic breakfast buffet. I did not have an opportunity to try the spa, but I did walk through it one day and it looked quite relaxing.
The only possible downside to staying at the Aghadoe Heights Hotel is that the property is in the outskirts of Killarney, which requires individual transportation or a cab ride to town, however that is also part of the appeal. The hotel is located in a quite area offering some unprecedented views. There is also a lot to explore within walking distance of the Aghadoe Heights Hotel, from the Aghadoe Cathedral ruins and nearby cemetery to an old tower and park (this area dates back more than 1000 years).
