Now in Traverse City, Michigan
For the past couple of days I’ve been road tripping around Traverse City, Michigan. This has been a trip that has been on the books for nearly a year and I’m so excited to finally be here. So far, Travere City has been everything I had hoped it would be. The fall foliage is near its peak and the coastal roads are just stunning.
I’m currently staying at the remarkable Grand Traverse Resort, which is perched on a hilltop a bit outside of downtown. The views from my 10th floor room are stupendous. I can see the golf course in the foreground with lots of trees in full autumn colors. Just beyond, the Grand Traverse Bay.
Yesterday I road tripped all the way to the end of Leelanau Peninsula to the Grand Traverse Lighthouse. Along the way I stopped by Tandem Ciders for a tasting, which was quite nice. With so many variety of apples in the area, each cider has a completely different taste. I also stopped by Kilcherman’s Christmas Cove Farm, which is a cute little place where you can buy many variety of apples, over 240 as a matter of fact. They also have a bit of a museum to peruse with lots of old soda bottles and signs.
My last stop on Leelanau Peninsula was to Suttons Bay, where I rented a bike and tootled around a bit. The weather was brisk, but sunny and just perfect to explore on two wheels.
Before coming back to the resort I stopped in downtown Traverse City and walked around a bit before coming across 7 Monks Taproom, where I had a wonderful dinner and a couple of great beers.
I have a number of things planned during my time here in Traverse City, so click here to read the next Road Diary update.
