5 Sights not to miss in Rajasthan, India

Rajasthan is located in the northwestern region of India and is by far the largest state in the country—it’s also one of the most beautiful places to visit in this incredible part of the world.

Rajasthan is home to stupendous structures, artistic elements and rich cultural heritage, which has been preserved throughout the advancement of time. With Rajasthan’s beautiful sceneries and marvelous structures such as its forts and temples, there is little wonder why Rajasthan is a thriving tourist destination; the sights are unlike anything you have seen around the world.

I traveled all over Rajasthan and these are my favorite sights not to miss.

MEHRANGARH FORT

This is one of the largest forts ever built in India, it was erected in the 1400s. It’s also known as the Mehran Fort and encompasses a cluster of Palaces that are well known for their artistry, sophisticated carvings, and courtyards. What makes this fort particularly beautiful is how it is situated so very high up on a cliff, which showcases the stunning city views below. Best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon as the amber glow from the sunrise and sunset highlights the beauty and intricacy of the Mehrangarah architecture.

AMER FORT

This is yet another fascinating fort to captivate the eyes—rich in cultural heritage and blossoming with Hindu-styled element artistry. The fort is located just a few meters away from the Rajasthan capital. It was built purely from marble and sandstone and still stands strong regardless of its 500 years of age. This beautiful fort is bound by the Maota Lake, which brings out beautiful refraction of the palace at certain times of the day.

CHITTORGARH FORT

Next on the list is one of the most attractive sights in Rajasthan, the Chittorgarh fort. This fort was built in the 7th century and has contributed significantly to the tourist industry within Rajasthan for it’s stunning beauty and the seemingly endless exploration opportunities. The fort stands conspicuously with many water features surrounding it, ranging from wells to ponds and a host of other natural sceneries.

CITY PALACE MUSEUM IN UDAIPUR

If you are looking to see palaces displayed in their entire splendor, then be sure to visit the City Palace Museum. The Museum is located within a greater complex in which you will learn about the cultural heritage, lifestyle of the Emperors that have once ruled this great Kingdom. Don’t miss a boat ride tour around Pichola Lake and stop by one of the island hotels for tea.

GADISAR LAKE

This lake has a calm and soothing effect, draining your fatigue while leaving you rejuvenated. Gadisar Lake is a place where you can leave the chaos of the cities behind. There are many fascinating things to see just a short walk from Gadisar Lake, such as Patwon Ki Haveli, a community with a high concentration of Haveli’s, which are very ornate townhouses made of a soft stone with intricate designs carved throughout. Fort Jaisalmer is also nearby and worth exploring, however it is very chaotic, so I recommend going here first if you wish, then go to Gadisar Lake.

TAJ MAHAL

The crown jewel of India has to be the Taj Mahal. While not technically in Rajasthan, it is near the state border, so I though I would include it because I don’t think a trip to India could be complete without seeing this amazing sight. There is a reason this is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the entire world…its beyond beautiful. The magnificent ivory-white palace shows off its precision craftsmanship and charm. The Taj Mahal is the ultimate love story. While many think this to be a palace, it is in fact a mausoleum build by the king for his beloved queen.
