East entrance to the Grand Canyon
I have been to the Grand Canyon many times, but until today, I had no idea there was a third entrance. Nearly 90% of all the visitors to the Grand Canyon enter from the South Rim. The North Rim, my personal favorite, is only open a few months out of the year due to heavy snowfall.
As I was driving south on Hwy 190 (west of Tuba City), I noticed a sign for the Grand Canyon. I had some time to spare, so I thought, “what the heck.” I headed west on Hwy 64 for about 24 miles and discovered the east entrance to the Grand Canyon. You can access the South Rim from this area, but entering here will save you time waiting in line, and, there are a lot fewer people. I suspect this area may also be closed in the winter, but not sure.
My question to you…have you ever taken a road trip to the Grand Canyon before? Do you have a favorite sight, and/or entrance?
