Asheville, a bevy of beer, beards and bears
I just arrived in Asheville, North Carolina where I’ve heard there is a bevy of beer, beards and bears. I’m in town visiting wildlife blogger friends, Hal and Christiana of Travel for Wildlife. This evening Hal and Christina took me on a tour of downtown Asheville where I enjoyed looking at some of the architecture, with its mix of Art Deco, Beaux Arts and Neoclassical style buildings. The retro-urban backdrop provides an edgy energy that emanates from the locally owned shops, art galleries and array of distinctive restaurants.
After the tour of downtown we popped into Chai Pani, a fantastic Indian restaurant specializing in “Indian street food,” which is a served up tapas style. After dinner we walked into a cool classic building, boarded an old-school elevator that required a driver and ascended some 7 or 8 floors before arriving at the Sky Bar, a chic local place providing libations while overlooking the city below.
Tomorrow we’re off to explore the famed, Biltmore Estate, which is a 179,000 square foot pad built by George Washington Vanderbilt in 1895.
